The 15 habits of people who have managed to be happy

Martin Seligman, an American psychologist known for his work and influence in the field of positive psychology, listed the habits of those who try to be happy, and they get it. It says “60% of our happiness is determined by genetics and the environment, but the other 40% is in our hands.”

 

We all want to be happy. The following are the habits we should practice:

  • Encourage human contact: Contact and manifestations of affection and confidence in the harmonious development of people, personal interactions motivate security and emotional balance.
  • Surrounding yourself with positive people: Joy is contagious. Seek to interact with colleagues, friends and positive, cheerful, energetic people, who see problems as a goal to overcome instead of something that is to fear or worry.
  • Spending time and money on other people: The journal Sciencea states and found in a study, that investing in other people positively influences happiness and generates a great sense of satisfaction in doing so.
  • Knowing how to forgive: Forgiving frees us from a great emotional and negative charge that prevents us from enjoying, being calm and serene. Carrying feelings of hatred or anger is detrimental to mental and physical health.
  • Enjoying music: The effect of music is amazing. A well-selected melody or listening to different rhythms arouse our emotions, help calm the pain, relax us and provide us with peace, tranquility and happiness.
  • Assuming attitude and posture: Happy people have a special posture, with grace. They walk upright, take long steps, greet each other frequently, they feel very safe and have a calm expression on their faces.
  • Being good listeners: The sense of assertive listening demonstrates cordiality and respect, encourages others to treat you the same and listen to you when you speak. It helps you get to know others, get information, more ideas and knowledge, bring you closer to people, help you reach agreements.
  • Exercising tenacity and assimilation: Keep calm in the most difficult moments has its complexity but help to shape the character. Three of the most effective techniques are breathing management, changing the focus of the situation and being active.

  • Laughing without fear or shame: A laugh releases substances in the brain, which make us better tolerate pain and stress. Laughing is good for cardiac functioning because it relieves tension.   • Prioritizing the exercise: Gives you endorphins and these soften the symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress, amplifying feelings of happiness and relaxation, additionally, it makes you feel better with your body, even if you don’t lose weight.
  • Cultivating spirituality: With spirituality or religion, we recognize that life is greater than us. We manage to feel a connection with nature and the universe and respect and thank for all that is received.
  • Rest and indulge yourself: With a good rest, physical and mental, there are ideas, there is motivation, there is energy, there is creativity, there are projects, learning. Sleeping and indulging yourself is a thing of intelligent and happy people, because with adequate rest you are investing in yourself. In addition, rest is not only sleep, it also involves spending hours of leisure and free time in entertaining and relaxing activities.
  • Applying courtesy: Courtesy opens doors, resolves conflicts, transforms attitude, improves relationships. These acts release serotonin in our brain, a hormone that has high benefits on our well-being. Helping others, the life of one who is gentle, as one who is allowed to receive kindnesses, is much better. Every good deed is rewarded.
  • Striving to be happy: The attitude towards events is what makes the difference. Thinking about the appropriate emotion to have to achieve the best results is an effort that we must daily make. Being positive is the answer.
